Many guests choose not leave the confines of this Alentejo holiday retreat, happy to be pampered by the friendly staff, lounge round the pool and be served sundowners as they watch the sun disappear into the golden wheat fields of the rolling Alentejo countryside. However, some prefer to take advantage of the host of activities on offer at Herdade da Chaminé. The farm is set in 87 hectares (215 acres) of rolling plains and woodland planted with oak trees, ideal for horse riding and hunting. The farm has its own stables and guests can enjoy a magnificent riding experience through Herdade da Chaminé and surrounding properties. In fact, this part of the Alentejo has been racing horses since Roman times and is famous today for breeding Arabian horses, which are exported around the world.
The farm can also organise hunting parties (horseback or on foot) for partridge, wild Moufflon sheep, wild boar, deer, hares, fox and clay-pigeon shooting. Guests looking for more peaceful pursuits can take part in art or cookery classes, hot air ballooning across the beautiful Alentejo countryside, massage, wine tasting and golf. Other activities include sightseeing with visits to the UNESCO World Heritage site of Évora and local markets, jeep safaris and helicopter trips.
Whether your idea of a luxury holiday rental is pure relaxation, a holiday packed with new experiences or a combination of the two, you’ll come away from this lovely farmhouse for rent in the Alentejo wanting to return for more!
