The Lisbon Coast has
enjoyed a building boom over the last few years due mainly to low interest
rates, and there's an abundance of property for sale right across the region.
However, the Lisbon suburbs has by far the greatest concentration of property
for sale as many of the surrounding towns act as dormitory towns for the
capital.
In the
heart of Lisbon, the Bairo Alto and Alfama probably offer the best
opportunities for real estate developers and people looking for renovation
projects. Both the Alfama and Bairo Alto are built on hills overlooking the
Baixa district of Lisbon that was rebuilt by Marquês Pombal after the
earthquake in 1755. There are quaint old apartments for sale, some with
excellent views over the river Tagus. However, these properties often
require extensive renovation work.

The coastline running west from Lisbon to Estoril and Cascais is a popular
area for homebuyers. Property prices are still high but with great beaches and
Lisbon only 30 minutes away by train, it's and attractive place to buy a
holiday home. You'll find a lot of apartments for sale but there are also
townhouses and villas for sale, especially in the Estoril and Cascais areas.
Property prices come down the further north and south you go from Lisbon. The Costa
Azul has a real estate development at Aroeira near Caparica. They sell villas
and apartments on their golf complex, mainly to people after holiday homes and
second homes for weekend use. Further south a new Marina and tourist complex
is planned at Setúbal and Tróia, which will also stimulate the property and
housing market in the region.
